“As many of Casella’s products are bodily worn, they need to be handled by individuals in factories and require disinfecting to ensure they are free of COVID19 before being packed away or passed on for use to other individuals. This document has been created to give guidance on best practice to clean and disinfect air sampling pumps and noise dosimeters. General practice when cleaning monitoring devices:
• Avoid excessive wiping and submerging items in cleanser to avoid damage.
• Do not use aerosol sprays, bleach or abrasive cleaners.
• Ensure moisture does not get into any openings to avoid damage.
• Never spray cleaner directly or alcohol directly on an item.
Noise Dosimeters
Applicable models: CEL-350, dBadge2.
Use a wipe containing Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) with a concentration of >70%.
Use a wipe to clean the exterior surfaces, clips, straps, display and buttons. Ensure there is enough contact time with the wipe to ensure the surface is moist.
The windshield can be cleaned separately, also by wiping. Remove the windshield from the instrument to clean it. When cleaning a windshield apply gentle pressure to ensure that the alcohol gets well into the windshield material. All materials of the windshield (including adhesives) and the body material of the dosimeters will be unaffected by the alcohol.
Air Sampling Pumps
Applicable models: Apex2, VAPex.
Use a wipe containing Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) with a concentration of >70%.
Use the wipe to clean the exterior surfaces, clips, display and buttons. Ensure there is enough contact time with the wipe to ensure the surface is moist. For air sampling heads and tubing, the normal cleaning procedure is to wash in warm soapy water top remove contamination from air sampling. This can be performed as normal, and additional use of a wipe containing IPA can be used if desirable.
General Instrumentation
If you have handled instruments that must be passed to other people, the same cleaning principles can apply. For handheld sound level meters and real time dust meters, the exteriors can be cleaned with an IPA wipe. Be careful with sensitive parts such as microphones, you don’t want to damage them by getting lint and alcohol into internal areas.”
